Hero Quest – Status Tracker – July #2

Here’s the new status.

  • Skaven – 20 – unpainted
Still haven’t started these, they need a lot of cleaning up, and I stupidly glued the shields on before I even under-coated them.
  • Heroes – 16 – 9 painted
    Finished another elf warrior.
  • Chaos Warriors – 12 – 8 painted
  • Chaos Priests – 3 – 2 painted
  • Gargoyles – 3 – 1 painted
  • Ogres – 7 – 2 painted
All the rest in various stages of being painted.
  • Zombies – 10 – 8 painted
  • Skeletons – 20 – 20 painted (complete!)
All 20 finished, some I’m happy with, most are below average, but I got very tired painting scythe handles.
  • Mummies – 10 – 10 painted (complete – yay)
  • Fimir – 12 – 2 painted
  • Pikemen – 12 – unpainted
  • Men at Arms – 10 – 1 painted
Terrible paint job, what was I thinking?
  • Orcs – 31 – 6 painted
I think it might be 31 because one died, but I need to recount them all.
  • Goblins – 24 – 18 painted

Here’s some Skeletons,

And the Elf, looks better in good lighting without the flash, but hey, watcha gonna do.

Hero Quest – Status Tracker – July

I posted the status of my Hero Quest mini’s in this article.  I thought I’d update it, and maybe try and keep it up-to-date over time.

  • Skaven – 20 – unpainted
Still haven’t started these, they need a lot of cleaning up, and I stupidly glued the shields on before I even under-coated them.
  • Heroes – 16 – 8 painted
I think it’s 8 painted, I’ll need to check, but I think I’ve finished 3 since I wrote the last article.
  • Chaos Warriors – 12 – 8 painted
  • Chaos Priests – 3 – 2 painted
  • Gargoyles – 3 – 1 painted
  • Ogres – 7 – 2 painted
All the rest in various stages of being painted.
  • Zombies – 10 – 8 painted
  • Skeletons – 20 – in progress
The four I marked as painted last time are terrible, and need to be re-done.  I’ve base-coated and started painting 12, I need to under-coat 4 and I need to restart the 4 terrible ones.
  • Mummies – 10 – 10 painted (complete – yay)
  • Fimir – 12 – 2 painted
  • Pikemen – 12 – unpainted
  • Men at Arms – 10 – 1 painted
Terrible paint job, what was I thinking?
  • Orcs – 31 – 6 painted
I think it might be 31 because one died, but I need to recount them all.
  • Goblins – 24 – 18 painted

And that’s where we are to-date.  Will re-check everything at some point and post a new update.

Hero Quest Mummies

I finally finished painting the Hero Quest mummies.  I think I started some time between 2000 and 2008 and finished two of them, and then in the last week I’ve painted the other 6!  Hmm, checking back, it looks like I painted one sometime between 2000 and 2008, and then did another in 2010, so not quite as bad 🙂

Looks like in 2009 I got quite excited by painting them all (which I then never finished, obviously).  Also, that post says I have 10 mummies, but I can only find 9.  Looks like I’ve lost one somewhere! ((aha, found him in the box, painted up))

Anyway, here are shots of the finished 9.

Pretty much ‘actual size’.

Larger version, click for full size.

All of them.

Plastic Dwarf Tastic

Another couple of in-progress images.  The last time I gave up painting I was painting six or seven miniatures at a time, or at least had that many ‘in progress’, switching between them while paint dried, etc.

This time I’m just sticking to one at a time, even if it means long breaks while a particular coat dries, but I’m finding it easier to see the detail.

Fixed (kinda)

So it turns out it wasn’t anything I did re: the change of themes, it’s a small problem with the Mandigo theme not linking to the theme options page in WordPress v3 correctly.  I can work around it for the time being, although I am hankering for a new look for the site (but still want to keep / use some of the header images).

The new default theme is okay but it’s all so big and I much prefer small sites.  I guess I can edit the theme options and have a play.

Anyway, I finished my little plastic knight, and it’s not a half bad job considering.

It’s not much but it’s a start

I’m painting, as the title says, not much, but it’s a start.  Finished off some plastics (from various HeroQuest editions), two orcs and a mummy.  Started a plastic knight (looks like it’s from one of the newer HeroQuest boxes) and done some broad areas on a few ogres (from another HeroQuest expansion).  I don’t feel in the right place mentally to do any high quality metals, I’m just trying to get my brush skills back after yet another long break.

I’m trying to decide if I want to try and master any new skills or if I’m just going to be content to paint like I always used to paint. Eyes, they’re my bane.  Also, my hands are shakier than they used to be, so all fine detail work is increasingly problematic.  I need to decide if I’m going to keep photographing my progress, it mostly depends on how embarrassed I am by my painting efforts at any one time.

A day of updates #6 – Miniature Mayhem

Despite the fact that I’m not painting anything at the moment, I just bought a whole bunch of miniatures from Hasslefree, because they’re superb sculpts that I’d love to paint (in the part of my head that thinks I can).

They had an offer on to raise some cash, allowing you to buy credit with them and then spend it when you wanted with some bonus credit added on.  I spent it all in one go (they understand the difference between profit and cash flow for small businesses, and they needed some cash flow).

So if I do finally get my painting mojo back on – I have plenty to go at.
